About the Book
This story has been with me for over a decade—I just didn't know it yet.
In high school, I wrote a simple tale about forks and spoons who refused to get along for a psychology project about prejudice. I saved it in my childhood time capsule and forgot about it. Years later, when I rediscovered those characters, I knew they deserved to be shared with the world.
Now, Forklin & Spoonette Save Silverware City is a fully illustrated picture book teaching kids that our differences make us stronger, not weaker.
The Story:
In Silverware City, forks stick with forks and spoons stick with spoons. They've let their differences divide them—until a wild spaghetti storm forces them to work together.
"We're better than spoons, keep those round heads away!" the forks shout.
"No pokey heads allowed!" the spoons sing back.
But Forklin and Spoonette see things differently. When they sneak away to play together, they discover they make an amazing team. Then disaster strikes. CRACK! SPLASH! Spaghetti starts falling from the sky!
The forks try to poke it. Too pokey! The spoons try to scoop it. Too slippery!
Can Forklin and Spoonette show their city that working together is the only way to save the day?
With rhyming text that kids love, vibrant illustrations, and a surprise twist ending featuring SPORKS, this heartwarming adventure proves that being different isn't a problem—it's our superpower.
